Gwen listened worriedly to the noises which came from deck. She would have liked to go and see what was going on, but Damien was against it, and she was not in the mood for a fight. So she wandered in the room, checking at Milla and... Where was Lydia ? She seemed to be better but she was still very weak... A sharp pain came through her as she thought of the young woman. Something was definitely wrong... She stood up and went to fetch Lydia. She found her after a few minutes, lying on the floor, unconscious and bleeding.
"Mon Dieu !" thought the Frenchwoman. "Que s'est-il passé ?"
She hurried off to call Damien for help. Even if he was annoying, untolerant and stuptidly overprotective, she needed him right now. She sighed loudly and entered the room.

"What the hell was that?" Aimèe shrieked when the girls were safely below deck.
"I don't really know..." Susanna looked puzzled, "And I don't think I want to know."
Aimèe paced the room. "I don't believe I did that! That's not like me at all! That stupid thing has got my dad..er, Jack and I just stood there!" Aimèe was shouting and gesturing wildly but Susanna wasn't taking any notice. All had learnt by now that there was no point taking any notice of Aimèe when she was in a mood like this, most had decided not to take any notice of her at all.
"If I'd have just sliced the thing when I could I might have saved us, all it would take is a quick whip of my," Aimèe looked down, "I don't have a sword. How bloody useless is that?!"
Susanna sighed, "Calm down Aimèe, if you have no sword then you were no use up there anyway."
"I still want to see what's going on" she muttered, and before Susanna could stop her, Aimèe ran out and back up on to the deck. When she got back up she gasped at what she saw. The monster (as she called it) was half way onto the ship, it's tentacles waving wildly, and a now very sober Jack was being shaken about high above the deck. Most of the crew were trying to attack the beast. Yet their swords, although sharp and strong, seemed useless against the creatures thick skin.
"Fire!" Aimèe exclaimed to no one, and quickly she rushed off to the galley.

In the galley was Kira. She was still upset, but calming down a bit. Of course, the food and rum was helping her. Pausing for a moment from eating, she dimly heard noise of some sort of ruckus outside. She paused for a moment and then shrugged and continued eating, bitterly she muttered to herself,
“I am sure whatever it is, they can carry on without me. It’s not like they need my help anymore, not that I ever did anything important.”
Suddenly a loud banging at the door disturbed Kira. Suddenly Aimee rushed in, dimly Kira noticed that Aimee looked dirty and tired, as if she had been in some sort of fight. Aimee rushed toward Kira and suddenly began shaking her, she was saying something but she was so distraught, Kira couldn’t understand what she was saying.
“Hold on, calm down” said Kira, putting out what she meant to be a soothing hand, “say it again, but slower”
Aimee blinked for a moment as if puzzled and then began to speak, Kira only caught parts of her sentences “Jack….rum….Jose….ghost ship…giant octopus, squid, thingy…fire…need FIRE” but that was enough
“Aimee are you sure your okay, I mean, uh, well no offense but giant squid ocutpus thing isn’t exactly a sign of a sane mind. Here, have some rum, it will calm you down”
“I don’t want rum” said Aimee impatiently, as she pushed the bottle aside, “what am I saying, no rum…” but then she shook her head and continued, “no but that’s not the point. Look you can believe me or not but there is SOMETHING out there that is ruining this ship. We gotta stop it, look fire will stop it”
“Why will fire stop it” asked Kira puzzled
“Because, because that’s how it always is!” said Aimee impatiently, suddenly she spotted a torch and she lit it from the fire that was burning in the corner, “come on, we gotta save the ship!” and she dragged Kira and together they rushed out of the galley and towards the direction of the gaint squid.

Like most of the crew, Gabby and Jose had been disturbed from what they were doing by the noises the beast made and its rocking of the ship. Aimee had come screaming by, and disappeared below deck. Ana, Gibbs, Calen, Will, and Emil had gone running by towards the wheel. Jose and Gabby followed.
By the time they reached the wheel, they saw that Jack was in the grasp of a mighty and many tentacled sea creature. It had him about the torso, was squeezing the life out of him, and whipping him this way and that. Almost unable to breathe, Jack was heard to gasp, "This mermaid is getting violent! Get me down from here, savvy!?"
The companions all hacked and slashed at the tentacles, attempting to free their captain. Yet, the beast's barnacled hide was very tough, and it drew narely a scratch. Soon, Will and Ana found themselves in the vile clutches of the beast's arms as well. It was at this moment that the beast heaved its head up out of the water and almost onto the deck of the ship. It was large, and contained two yellow and evil looking eyes and a very sharp beak. The beak gapped wide in hunger, and the tentacle that bound Ana pulled her nigh to it. Ana could feel its breath. It was hot and it stank; she almost swooned.
"My squire," shouted Jose in dismay. He ran closer to the beast, and Emil, worried for his dearest friend was there too. They hacked as hard as they could, and yet drew very little blood. "The eyes," shouted Gabby as she came near. "Take out the eyes!"
This was easier said than done, however. Calen tried to shoot the beast with her pistol, but she and the others were batted off their feet with a swipe of a tentacle.
Just then, Kira and Aimee came topdeck with torches in each of their hands. They each threw one torch, and each landed on or near the beast. It squeeled, and a shudder of pain rippled through all its members. It still pulled Ana closer to its jaws. Ana clutched and held on to the timbers that made up the deck in a desperate attempt to save herself. While Gabby, Emil, and the others kept its free tentacles at bay, Kira and Aimee held their remaining torches to the arm that held Ana. The limb almost began to melt. Drawing a dagger, Jose hurled it at the beast's head. The dagger struck it on the beak. That was enough for the beast. Giving one last painful and angered roar, it let go of its victims, and sank into the depths.
Jack and Will fell to the deck with a loud thud. Along with Ana, they were all gasping dearly for breath and feeling for cracked ribs. It took some time for the shock and fear of the whole situation to pass. Everyone was releaved; it had been a close call.
The Pearl now made greater speed--all the better to get to the more shallow waters near the coast and further away from the depths where such beasts as had attacked it were common.
As the sun sank, the ship entered the harbor of New Orleans. The lights of lanterns and torches in the city popped up like fireflies. Down the wind came the sound of music, laughter and singing in a distinct French dialect, and the smells of French food. It seemed a very warm and welcoming place indeed.
Jack was very merry. "Land ho," he shouted. "Here we are, mates! Its evening already, and the day is too far gone for any serious business. So, m'lads, I say go and enjoy yourselves! Drink up, play hard, and love well. Just remember to pay and say thank you!" He chuckled, and took a swig of rum (the last of it on the ship).
A bit more cautious, Jose had suggestions of his own. "If I might say something," he said. "I also suggest we don't all go to the same places together. We don't want to attract any more attention than we have to. Stay reasonably close, but go in smaller groups. And we should all probably be back aboard the Pearl by morning."
"Well said," shouted Jack. "Now go and make merry!"
While the rest of the crew rushed off to do whatever they pleased in town, Jose, Gabby, Gwen, Damien, and Jack the Monkey stayed behind for a bit with the still unconscious Lydia. "Poor thing," sighed Gwen. "She just doesn't seem to want to recover."
"And that is the odd thing," added Damien. "Physically, she seems fine. Malnourishment is the only thing wrong with her there, and that can be ammended. Rather, her ailment seems mental. That's the only reason I can think of for her present state. And for that, I have no remedy."
"What can we do for her," pondered Jose. "We've all attempted to speak with her and do things with her. She seemed ok when I was first teaching her things about navigation and cartography. Where did it all go wrong?"
"I noticed that, too," said Gwen. "I think the change came over her after the mutiny and her captivity with George and his mutinous men."
"Yet, she's been a captive this whole time, even under Calen," pointed out Jose.
Gabby chimed in. "Say," she said. "Wouldn't there be a British consolate here in New Orleans? An ambassador or something? She doesn't really belong here on the ship, I don't think. Maybe we could turn Lydia over to the British ambassador? He'd probably be sure to return her to her father in Port Royal."
"Good thinking," said Jose. "Why don't we go look into that before getting something to eat?" Gabby nodded her head. "Damien, I suppose you'll be staying to look after Lydia? Would you like to come with us, Gwen?"
The French woman replied, "I think I shall stay here for now. It would be much better for me to take in the familiar culture, sights, and sounds of my French brothers and sisters in the full light of day. But thank you."
With a nod and a farewell, Gabby and Jose disembarked the ship, and melted into the city streets of New Orleans. ******************
Much further down the harbor, The Queen of the Sea weighed anchor. George and his men disembarked. Short on coin, they weren't sure if they'd have much fun at all that night. So they'd just have to take what they could by force. Quietly though.
And even further down the harbor, the slightly wounded Garnet made port. She had not seen it, but Captain Carlita Thallen knew the Pearl had docked here. Jack, the Pearl, and all aboard were her prey, and they were all so terribly close. There was no way she'd lose them now.

"Well, I never thought I'd set foot here again." said Ana almost to herself, to return back to her native land, it held bittersweet memories.
"I'm going to pay a visit to some of the pubs down there, now who's with me?" she asked no one in particular.
Ana patted her belt, and felt her map still inside her cravat, relieved it didn't fall out after her little 'encounter' with the giant octopus, and if there was time, and it seems like they had plenty of time at the moment; she would like to find her own people, maybe a village or a settlement nearby for she desparately wanted to know the secret of that map.

The sound of louad music and laughter (and the occassional breaking of glass) could be heard as Jose and Gabby hurried along the dark streets of New Orleans. They came to an intersection and Jose suddenly stopped.
"What is it?" Gabby asked him. He did not respond, he simply looked around and down each of the street in the intersection. "We're lost, aren't we?" Gabby asked.
"Of course we're not lost! I just um... um...." Jose said, trailing off. Gabby rolled her eyes. What a fantastic navigator, she thought.
"Why don't we ask one of those gentlemen over there fo directions," Gabby stated, rather than asking a question. She was halfway to one of the intersection's corners before the words she said registered in Jose's mind and he realized what she was doing.
"Gabby," he hurried after her, "Wait!" Too late. Already she was talking to them. Surprisingly enough, they were very polite.
"Pardom me, sirs," Gabby started, "But could you please direct me and my companion to the British consolate?"
"Why certainly, young miss," said an old man sitting on a little chair. He had one glass eye and a walking cane laid across his lap. "Go down two blocks--"
"Gabby!" the old man was cut off by Jose's coming up and taking Gabby by the arm. "What are you doing?" he whispered to her. "You shouldn't just go up to anyone you see on the street!"
"And you shouldn't interrupt when one of your elders is speaking!" said the old man, as he whacked Jose on the leg with his walking cane. Jose let out a cry of pain and moved his hand to the hilt of sword, but Gabby stopped him.
"Enough of this!" She said to him. "Sir, I apologize. Would you please continue?"
"Yes, of course. Now as I were saying," he said smiling at Gabby and giving Jose a look that could curdle milk, "go down this street here for two blocks, then make a right and go down three more blocks, and the consolate will be on the left."
"Thank you, sir," Gabby said, "We are much obliged." She smiled at him and took Jose by the arm and led him off down the street. They had already gone the two blocks down, and the one block right, when Gabby began to feel very uneasy. Every little sound made her jump; her eyes darted around, trying desperately to find what could be making her feel so afraid. She slipper her hand into Jose's as they walked.
"Are you all right?" He asked.
"Yes, I... I'm fine," she said, though she didn't feel fine. Something was wrong. Jose could sense this. They passed by an old woman with a basket full of roses, that she was selling. Jose stopped and pulled a coin out of his pocket. The old woman let him pick a rose.
Gabby's eyes had been wandering through the streets, searching for anything that may be amiss. And then she found it. As Jose turned back to Gabby with the rose, he saw that she was pale, her eye wide with fright, and she was shaking.
"Gabby? Are you ill?" Jose asked. "George," Gabby said in a hoarse whisper. Sure enough, there was George across the street with a few of his men hasseling some hookers. Then, for whatever reason, George looked across the street and his eyes met Gabby's. He grinned, a menacing grin, and licked his lips. Gabby didn't hesitate; the second her eyes met his she bolted down the street towards the consolate. Jose followed closely behind; George and his men gave chase. After a mintue, that felt more like an hour, of running, Gabby and Jose finally reached the conolate. They burst through the door, Jose slamming it shut behind them. A few gaurds came over and began questioning them immediately, asking what the matter was. Gabby gave them no answer; she was still shaking, as she sunk to the floor and began to weep.

Kira looked over at the side of the ship; New Orleans. On the other side of her Aimee also let out a little sigh. “It looks so interesting doesn’t it, so many people, places…”
“Gold” said Kira specutavely, eyeing the throngs of people. “Lovely, lovely, gold and riches! New Orleans is a hot spot for that sort o’ thing”
“Aye” said Aimee, “And bars, with many drinks” she said, smacking her lips
“Aimee dear” asked Kira thoughtfully
“Hmm” said Aimee
“Remind me again why we are stuck here, an’ the others get to go off and visit the city” asked Kira
Aimee turned to look at Kira, comprehension dawning in her eyes, “Yeah how come!” she exclaimed, starting to get angry now
Kira nodded her head hard, “they are naught but rotters, fancy that leavin’ us here on this ol’ ship with no companionship. They be heartless an’ cruel an’…an’, MEAN!”
“YEAH” exclaimed Aimee loudly
“Lets go shall we Aimee” asked Kira
“Agreed” said Aimee, “Huh, fancy that, them trying to leave us here all alone. Well we will see how them likes that!”
The two girls march off the street and soon find themselves lost in the maze of streets that made up New Orleans.
“Hey, money” exclaimed Kira, eying a overstuffed pocket of a well dressed man walking down the streets
“Kira” said Aimee warningly
“What?” asked Kira, batting her eyes innocently
“Lets not call attention to ourselves ‘kay”
“Mmmm” said Kira noncommitingly
Aimee soon spies a tavern, dragging the struggling Kira (who is still looking at the strangers on the street) the two girls enter. Aimee is instantly at home, the hazy and dim atmosphere, the brawls, and ale reminding her of her life before the pirate ship.
“Two drinks luv” she calls to the bar wench, “one for me an’ one for my fine friend here” she said, jerking her thumb in Kira’s direction.

Kira and Aimèe sat in the corner of the dingy tavern gulping down their ale. Kira kept providing money from nowhere to pay for the drinks, which they were going through quite quickly. Aimèe was puzzled by this at first but soon with the help of the ale, she forgot about it.
"Argh, bugger!" Kira suddenly cried as she saw the bottom of yet another tankard.
"Wha?!" was the slurred reply from Aimèe, which was barely audible between the giggles.
"I be drinkin' too fast an' now's we got no money." Kira replied solemnly.
"Ohno!" Aimèe cried, with an expession of utter heartbreak. "What we gonna do?"
Kira laughed, "I fink you should get some more money. Or else we got no more drinks." She flashed Aimèe a look that the girl immediately took to be 'I dare ya..'
"Alright then!" Aimèe shrieked, which caused all the people sat close by to throw them dirty looks, "I will get us some more! You jus' watch!" As she said that, she stood up, hitched up her skirt and jumped onto the table, kicking the empty tankards and other things off it as she did so.
Kira laughed hysterically. "What ya doin' up there ye... ye...." But she was interupted by the clatter of more tankards hitting the ground and collapsed into another fit of laughter.
"I be dancin!"

Aimee was having the time of her life. The ale swam in her blood and her mind twirled, things grew in and out of focus. Kicking her heels and swishing her skirts, she left plenty for the many men in the tavern to think about. All of the drunken sots stared at her practically in awe, even the server behind the bar kept washing the same tankard over and over again with the same dirty rag; each time making it dirty and more filthy.
Laughing hysterically, Kira collapsed onto the floor, however she soon found a gold coin. Her eyes widened greedily, and she quickely thrust the coin into her pocket. As she got up, she wobbled slightly, but her mind was still keen and her hands light as she strode toward the group of patrons who were eyeing Aimee. Strangely however the floor moved, and more than once Kira found herself on the verge of giggles. However hampered she was by her handicaps, she quieckely and effortlessly emptied the partons of their wealth that was found in their pockets. Chuckling to herself, she winked at Aimee, who was beginning to run out of breathe. Aimee noticed Kira’s signal, we have our money, now for the drinks she thought greedily. Swaying slightly from exhaustion, she stopped her dancing (a collective moan of sadness rose up from the men assembled there). Aimee winked at the crowd and fluttered her eyebrows,
“Thank you all, you have been a wonderful audience, no really” she said, bowing over almost in half, stumbling a little, she got down from the chair and rejoined Kira. Kira looked around at the crowd, they still stared at the two girls, with a loud voice and a grand hand gesture, Kira cried,
“What is this, no drinks for the ladies!” Eagerly one of the men cried out, “Ho, drinks for everyone!”
Instantly he was a hit, and drinks were served, laughing and toasting each other, the atmosphere was almost congenial. Suddenly however a lone voice broke above the crowd,
“Ho, who stole my money”
Instantly cries of indignation rose from the drinkers, as each discovered to his or her dismay of the burden they had been emptied off. The atmosphere stilled and became deadly quiet; Kira gulped nervously in the sudden hush that filled the tavern.

Jack, with Monkey perched on his shoulder, Ana, Gibbs and Emil made their way into the pub, it was full of people but strangely everthing was dead quiet!
'Did someone die?" said Jack looking around, Ana who was already half drunk, leaned on Emil for support, Gibbs wiped his moustache, suddenly the patrons all turned towards them.
"Hey look it's Aimèe and Kira!" said Gibbs pointing towards the two girls.

Kira nudged Aimee in the ribs, "Methinks we are a bit of a pickle now eh?" she asked
"Aye" said Aimee, glaring at Kira, "an' I wonder whose fault it was..."
Kira put a hand to her heart in mock innocense, "are ye accusin' me of bein' at fault in this?"
"Well it shore aint me" retored Aimee
"Well we did need money for the rum" said Kira
"Hmph" Aimee replied
"But this is the least of our worries mate. We are surrounded in a bar, odds are twenty to one, and there are a dozen men in here who are dyin' to kill us fer stealin' there money" said Kira, looking around nervously
Aimee sighed and stretched, then casually looked at her nails, as she looked at them critically she began speaking in a bored tone, "Kira, I still say it's your fault, however I agree. We need ta' discuss this later. Right now the pressing matter is the need to escape with our hides, any ideas o' smart one"
"yeah one" said Kira
"which is...?" asked Aimee, interested
"RUN" yelled Kira, as she bolted out of her seat, confused for a moment, Aimee hesitated, then grabbed a mug half full of ale and gulped it down, then she to ran out fallowing closely on Kira's heels. As they ran out, they bumped into a small crowd of strangers, however they were so flustered they barely had a moment to register that fact before pushign the strangers behind them and running away down the street. Finally after they had gone several blocks, and both of them were panting heavily from exhaustion did Aimee manage to gasp out,
"Was...that..Ana...Emil..."
"An' the rest" interuppted Kira, "Aye. I did not get a good look, but from what I can tell twas them"
"Are you tellin' me that we just shoved some of our crew into a bar full of drunken, angry sailors an' pirates" asked Aimee
"Um" said Kira, stalling for time, "it's all uh, part of my secret plan"
"Which was?" asked Aimee, tapping her foot impatiently
"To get out of there in one peice o' course!" said Kira triumphantly, "We have no weapons or fighting skills, while them are pirates, they are born to danger"
"Yeah but..." said Aimee hesitantly
"No buts" said Kira firmly, she clutched Aimee's arm and wobbled around "Eh, I don't feel so good, I think it's the ale or some sort"
"I have no sympethy for ye" said Aimee, " don't think I didn't notice ye hogging more than your fair share o' the ale"
"Hmph" replied Kira, suddenly her eyes gleamed as she once again took in her surroundings, "Aimee, do ye know where we are?"
"New Orleans"
"Well yeah" replied Kira impatiently, "But we are in the rich section, where they pay tons o' money for stuff like curses and magic an' junk"

"Curses and magic!" Aimèe laughed as the girls wobbled their way down the street. "They might as well be wasting their money betting on, on - on how long it would take you to row the seven seas without an oar." She stopped and folded her arms triumphantly at the fact she'd been able to complete a sentence.
"Well, I'd be faster then ye, for sure" Kira boasted, nose in the air.
"You would not! I'm Aimèe Sparrow"
"Ye be kiddin' ye self if ye think ye could beat me." The little theif replied, hands on hips and eyebrows raised.
"Well then!" Aimèe cried, "We'll do it! I bet you all them coins you got that I will be faster then you"
Kira laughed "Alright! Ye be wastin' ye time though..."
With that the girls marched of (after a rather long delay caused by them walking in every wrong direction possible) back in the direction of the Pearl.
Not long after a gruff voice came from behind, "Oi! You, get'ere an gimme my money!"

Kira and Aimee were still on the streets of New Orleans. Not far up ahead of them was the great ship; The Black Pearl. Both of the girls wobbled, each holding onto each other. They made a comical site. Each was holding an imaginary paddle and were swaying as they walked. As they went along, they argued,
"No, not that way Aimee, wrong way, keep your paddle straight” said Kira
“Well it would be easier if you did your share of the paddling” argued Aimee
“Well it is your side of the dingy that has the leak in it”
“Yeah well, well, ITS YOUR FAULT” yelled Aimee, in a bit of a huff
Before Kira could argue her point, a strong hand gripped her shoulder. And a alchohol tainted breathe stained the air. A gruff voice spoke,
"Oi! You, get'ere an gimme my money!" an old man swayed; ale had clearly addled his wits and he squinted blearily at the two girls, he was stooped over and his gnarly skin was brown and wrinkled.
“Huh” said Kira, clearly confused
Aimee rolled her eyes; “Think carefully Kira, remember anything about money and stealin’ from people in a bar”
“Uh, nope” said Kira, “Hey money, me likes money”
Aimee rolled her eyes again, “come one, lets get out of there before the ol’ man spits on us to death” her elegant departure was hampered by her once again picking up an empty paddle and dragging the unwilling Kira behind. As they turned and got themselves lost once more in a maze of streets, suddenly a solid wall of brass buttons interrupted their progress. Looking slowly upward the two girls found their gaze drawn to a tall, very very tall guard. He looked sternly down upon them, and clasped hands upon their shoulders. So tight, that it would be folly and nigh impossible for the girls to break free. Sternly he looked down upon them; frowning and forbidding, and he placed both of them in handcuffs.
“Drinking, mayhem, nuisance and more. You two need some time out, hope you enjoy jail girls” he said, with a slight smirk.

Calen turned a corner to seen Amiee and Kira being led off by a guard oh dear now what have they got themselves into she thought with a sight . and what do i need to get them out of , she began walking towards the trio.
"Calen!" Amiee exclaimed with a drunken slurr
Calen looked at the guard " what may i ask good sir have these girls done to cause offence?"
"do you really want a list?" he remarked
Calen grimced it would take more than a quick bribe to get them out of trouble it seemed as the guard told Calen what the two had done.
"well you see sir it's the first time the girls had been to a tavern and they don't handle their drink too well" Calen lied
"thats no excuse for stealin"he shot back
"no" she began " but these girls are too drunk to know what they are doing can't ya see that?"
The guard didn't seem too convinced
"how much did they steal?"
"at least 20 pounds
Just then Ana, Gibbs , Emil , Will and Jack came around the corner
"well how bout i give you that and you forget you ever caught these two savvy?"
Amiee opens her mouth to say something but Calen gives her a look before turning back to the guard
"alright , jus this once seen as its such a lovely lady askin" he leered
Amiee snickered and Calen slapped her round the back of the head
"hey.." Amiee began to complain but was silenced by Kira's hand covering her mouth Calen handed over the coins and took each girl by the arm , dragging them towards The Pearl

As soon as the group got around the corner, Aimèe shrugged herself free of Calen. "What the hell are you doing?!" She shrieked.
"Getting you two out of trouble?" Calen replied with a hint of sarcasm.
"Well... we were fine on our own!" said Aimèe defiantly. "That geezer was putty in out hands. We don't need you an' your ponsy hats and boots n'all. We are fine on our own!" Kira nodded in agreement.
Jack laughed "Well it didn't look like that when we found you!"
"Shut up." Aimèe pouted.
"We had that all planned!" Kira broke in, "We 'ad it all under control an' we were gonna jus' creep outta there when you had to come in an' wreck it all." It was now Aimèe's turn to nod in agreement.
The other's of the group were trying not to laugh, but the two girls remained deadly serious throughout.
"And so, if you would be so kind as to leave us alone now. We will be goin' an' havin' no more o' your faffin' around and naggin' us. Goodbye." Aimèe took hold of Kira's elbow and the girls briskly turned around and wobbled off.
