For once, Jack seemed at a loss for words. Mouth partly open as if to speak, he quirked an eyebrow questioningly at Gibbs, avoiding the girl's eye (though he needn't have, as Aimee was steadily watching the floor). For several moments, the ship's groans as it sailed from the island was the only sound. Since it didn't seem like Aimee was going to explain, Gibbs sighed and ended the silence. "Yer daughter, Cap'n. By a lass named- uh- Mary, back in Port Royal." "That's... interesting," murmured Jack, his eyebrows lifting further. For a moment, the shock of being a father clouded his recollection- but not for long. Like everything else, he took this factor in his stride. And the name Mary stirred another memory. He cautiously shifted his gaze to Aimee, and found her still staring down. "Yer mother never... y'know.. told ye much about me, did she?" "No," came the somewhat bitter reply. Jack looked a little hurt. "Not even that I was a captain?" Aimee glanced up at him, but looked away again quickly. He continued, "Well, ever kept anything of mine?" Aimee's mind jolted to the compass, but she hesitating in speaking. Starting to get exsasperated with the girl's uncharacteristic reserve, Gibbs nudged her lightly and muttered, "The compass. Tell 'im." But this was all Jack needed to hear. He wheeled around to face Ana, Emil, and the rest of the marooned party that had come aboard and were currently gathering around him. "Here's the thing," he started awkwardly. "There's this lass who... is a little upset with me." Ana, Emil, Will, and Gibbs, all being familiar with Jack's unique way with women, gave a collective sigh. "Y'see, she's under the impression that the spiffing little compass I gave to this girl's mother- to remember me by-" He glanced at Aimee- "was stolen from her." There was an expectant pause. "Which it wasn't!" he hastily added. "None the less, this lass- a captain now, wouldn't ye know it- wants said compass, and quite possibly my head. Hence our sailing away from her ship, the Garnet, yonder." He pointed past the assembled rag-tag crew to the scarlet sailed ship heading straight for them. "Straight our of one adventure and into the next," mused Emil. "Life itself is an adventure, you should know that, Emil," piped up Ana. "Aimee," said Jack turning to his daughter. She looked up, quivering a little at hearing her name coming from him. "I be needing that compass. Do ye have it on ye?" Carefully, Aimee reached into her pocket and pulled out the small box that contained the old compass, and held it out silently to Jack. "Thank you," he said quietly, and for the first time on this voyage, Aimee felt that she really had a purpose here. It was a pleasant change to feel needed, though the peril they were in was a bitter twist on the feeling. "As soon as we lose them," called Jack to the on-deck crew, "we sail for the Isla de Muerta!" *** Aboard the Garnet, Captain Carlita Thellen had become a white hot inferno of rage without even breaking a sweat. She stood as rigid as a plank at the helm of the ship that had once belonged to her late husband, her knuckles white as she gripped the wheel. Her skin was grimy, and her normally elegant raven hair was slick with grease and stringing about her face as the wind tossed it. But she seemed not to notice her state, or anything for that matter, save the black sails of the ship ahead of them. "Captain Thellen! That's a navy ship on the other side of them; perhaps we best pull back!" "Do you really expect me to listen to you, Johnstone?" she asked in steel tones. She didn't turn to face the young man, but her hold on the helm tightened. " You- who was foolish enough to stand within Sparrow's reach while carrying the key to his cell? You- who was overpowered by a starved prisoner? You- who let escape one of the most valuable prisoners we've ever detained!" Her voice had risen to a towering scream. "I ought to have you thrown overboard! CARTIERRE!" Her first mate, a middle aged man who was nonetheless lean and dashing, stepped forward attentively, not even thrown off by the wild swaying of the vessel. Johnstone began to panic, fearing Thellen would really go through with tossing him off. "No!" he cried. "Please, Captain, please don't, please have mercy-" "Throw him in the brig!" thundered Thellen, and Cartierre promptly grabbed the gibbering lad by the scruff of the neck and dragged him away. Teeth gritted, Carlita stared unblinkingly forward. She had no time for incompetant sailors. She had to catch the fastest ship to ever sail the seven seas. (Hope that's okay. Please let me know if anything needs to be edited.)

Gwenaêlle slowly opened her eyes. Her shoulder hurted like hell and she felt dizzy.
"Où suis-je ?" she asked, her voice barely audible.
"Ne vous inquietez pas, tout va bien. Vous êtes sur "The Pearl" responded a soothing masculine voice.
Gwen frowned lighly. Her own language ? It must be the fever.. She drifted into sleep, with the sensation of a cool hand on her forehead...

Great posts everyone! **************************************** The wounded and weak, namely Lydia who was still unconcious, Kira and Gwen were all taken to the surgeon's quarters to receive medical aid. Whereas Ana lead Susannah, Gabby and Aimee to the crew's quarters to get some rest, "Why can't I stay on deck with you and the rest Ana?" asked Aimèe hopefully. "Well miss, notice the red ship behind us?" Aimee nodded. "Well, we're trying to get away from it, and it might get dangerous, best ye stay here awhile until the coast is clear, Captain's orders" replied Ana with a smile, and Aimee nodded reluctantly. "Ana! Please keep an eye on Jose for me!" quipped Gabby, Ana smiled reasuringly and went up on deck. Meanwhile up on deck..."The Red Ship! It's gaining on us Jack!" yelled Gibbs. Jack remained serious and stared dead ahead, "Wind is shifting, drop main canvas! And roll the sails on second masts!" he yelled to the crew. In an instant the deck errupted into chaos, the crew, Emil and Gibbs included, clambered here and there, securing the canvas, pulling ropes and dragging pulleys. Ana swiftly swiped the periscope from Jose, who was standing right beside her, yet again, "I can see it, it's fast!" Jose snatched it back with a frown. "Yes it is, may I say that ship looks very familiar, almost Spanish in build." "But it's main weakness is that it's huge, it can't possibly slip through those shoals, " replied Jack pointing beyond, and he smiled, "I know a crack in them." And so the Pearl lunged ahead, with the Red Ship trailing close behind. On board the Garnet.."Captain! You need to halt! They are heading towards those shoals! You'll sink the ship!" warned her first mate Cartiere. "I can get to them before that!" she shot back "I must firmly disagree, they're too far away! We can't! It's suicide! We have to go the other way! You have to stop and turn!" Captain Thellen pushed her ship as far as it would go, and looked on helplessly as the Pearl drifted away, beyond her grasp... fine, we shall go the other way...On board the Pearl...."Hurray!!! We lost them!!" cheered the crew, laughing and embracing one another. "At least... for now..." said Jack almost to himself.

Gabby, Aimèe, and Sussanah sat in silence for a little while; they were all very tired, and none of them really wanted to talk. Gabby laid herself down on the bed as gently as she could; she had to be gentle as she had some briusing from that punch from Ed. Ed. She shuddered, and felt sick to her stomach. She snuggled into the blanket on the cot she lay on, and soon drifted into a restless sleep....
Gabrielle was again onboard the Queen of the Seas, standing in Jose's room. Everything in the room seemed to be the same, yet it felt different somehow; she couldn't quite put her finger on it. And then she had it. The papers that were normally stacked on Jose's desk were now all over the floor. As she looked at the papers on the floor, she saw a trail of blood leading to the trap door, which was open. Nervously, she walked over to the open trap door, and peered over the side. There was nothing but water. But suddenly a hand lurched up out of the water and grabbed her around the throat. She screamed, but there was no sound. The hand pushed her back, and the rest of it's body came out of the water. It was Ed. His throat, still slit open. He continued to push her back, his hand around her throat, until she was against the wall. "You're mine," he said. "It's not over." At that moment, other arms came out of the wall behind her, wrapping themselves around her and holding her there.
And then she woke up. She sat straight up in bed, chest heaving, and wiped the sweat from her brow. She wondered how long she'd slept. She looked around the room, her eyes blurry from tears, and saw that Aimèe was nowhere to be seen, and Sussanah was sleeping peacefully. A sob escaped her lips, and she clasped her hand over her mouth, not wanting to wakt her. Gabby brought her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, and cried.

Kira sat up in the bed in the small cabin with the other wounded; Gwen, and Lydia. In the darkness of the room, Kira thought through the past events. So now here she was on a ship; The Black Pearl. but what really got her interest was where they were going to. Some of the sailors had whispered about, a city of gold. Kira's eyes gleamed in the dark. Enough gold for everyone, enough gold to make her richer beyond her wildest dreams.
Suddenly, it came to her. A muffled sound, Kira wouldn't have been able to pick up on it if it weren't for her sharp ears. Puzzled she listned a bit more. Then, noislessly she got out of bed and padded down the hall. She stoppped at the doorway and could discern in the gloom the dim shape of Gabby. Kira stopped and froze, she wondered why Gabby was crying, but she didn't want to intrude. So there Kira stood, at the doorway, silent and watching Gabby.

Jose stood beside Jack on the deck of the Pearl. Jack was at the helm, steering here and there. Jose looked on in admiration; the pirate was obviously good with a ship, and knew what he was doing. He had heard a lot about Jack, and now was the first he had been able to meet him. The Spaniard was sure that hanging around the seemingly crazy pirate would prove both interesting and entertaining.
As the sun sank at last behind the rim of the ocean, Jose cast one last look behind them, using his periscope to spy at the pursuing ship. It had changed course, and was veering away from a direct path behind the Pearl. It was too dark out now, and the ship was too far away, so Jose could not make out much of it. But all the talk that Jack had said about a red sail on a pirate ship of Spanish build (albeit not neccessarily of Spanish crew) had gotten Jose worried. "What if that is the pirate ship that...," Jose thought to himself. "No, it couldn't be. At least not neccessarily. I'm sure there are several pirate ships that fly red flags. I would have to get a closer look. Yet, that is also something that would be bad for us all. Nay, I have no desire to see that ship ever again!"
Trying to get his mind off the past and the possibilities it had on his future, Jose went below deck to check on Gabby. With the excitement of the day and the pursuit of several ships, they had not had much time to talk. She had seemed exhausted, almost on the verge of fainting the entire time, and he had not wished to trouble her just then. But perhaps now was a good time?
As Jose approached the room, he saw a shadowed form leaning against the doorway. It was Kira. Jose touched her on the shoulder, and she turned around with a start. "I am sorry to frighten you, senorita," he said. "But I had wished to see Gabby. Is she sleeping?"
"No sir," replied Kira. "Though I think you should go and talk to her." Without another word, Kira turned and left.
Small candle in hand, Jose knocked, and entered the room. Hoping he would not notice that she had been somewhat frightened, Gabby changed her rather defensive fetal possition, and leaned up against the wall in a more casual posture. Almost as if nothing had happened.
Jose sat on the bed beside her, and set the candle down on a nearby desk. "Is anything wrong," he asked slowly.
Gabby hesitated, and looked away for a few seconds. The whole time, she clutched her arms and hands to her chest.
Jose looked upon her with sorrow, pity, and concern. "Please, Gabby," he said. "I want to help. Let me know if there is anything I can do." Now it was Jose's turn to hesitate. "Did any of those pirates...did they...."
Gabby knew what Jose was wanting to say. And calling to mind the words Ed spoke to her about no man wanting another's leftovers, Gabby became suddenly defensive. "And what if they did," she asked with a sudden fire. "No man wants another's leftovers. You'd leave me, no doubt!"
Jose's jaw dropped. "What," he asked flabbergasted. "Of course not! If they had, I would pursue the man who did so, and pin him to the wall with my sword like the dastard he is! And you, I would console as best I could. I would hold you. Just hold you."
Gabby began to cry anew. Jose scooted a bit closer to her on the bed, and slowly put an arm about her shoulders. "Gabby, what did they do? You can tell me. I won't leave you."
Gabby finally replied, "I was yanked about quite roughly. I was kicked in the stomach so I would behave. But no...the pirates did not do anything else to me. My virtue is intact." She sighed.
Jose also sighed in relief. "That is the best news I have heard all day," he said. "I am so glad."
"But Jose," Gabby continued. "In order to do so...I had to...I killed a man. I killed Ed. With your dagger, I slashed his throat when he tried to touch me."
"Aww, Gabby, it is ok. It was in self defense. If you had not stabbed him, he would have violated you. And who's to say he would not have killed you afterwards? I would take Gabby the wonderfully sweet senorita over Ed the nasty pirate any day!"
Gabby was not overly comforted by these words, and groaned slightly. Jose realized this, and spoke in a different vein. "Ah," he said in slightly raised voice as if he had just realized something. "You are perhaps feeling guilty over the taking of a life? Well, it was in self defense, so you were fully justified. But I have already told you this, and it is something easy to say for the one who is not experiencing what you are. Killing someone is indeed a horrifying thing. I am a soldier, so there is a first time for each of us. But for a civillian such as you, there should be no first time. I'm sorry you had to go through that. So maybe there is little I can say to comfort you. Just know that I have gone through the same thing, and am here for you whenever you need me. As long as I can help it, I will never leave you again!"
Gabby eased up, comforted a little bit. She rested her head upon Jose's shoulder, heaved a huge content sigh, closed her eyes, and fell back asleep.
After awhile, Jose decided to get up. He had to get a drink, and then he would come back. He eased Gabby's sleeping body down upon her pillow, and got up. But as he did so, Gabby's arms finally fell away from her chest. To Jose's amaze, something fell from behind her arms. In the dim light of the candle, his eyes fell upon his English translation copy of Don Quixote. Despite her danger, Gabby had taken the extra thought and effort to save it from the captured ship; she knew how much it meant to him. And she had clung to it tightly for comfort just now. Jose's heart simply melted. He leaned over, kissed Gabby upon the forehead, and extinguished the candle.

Calen stood up on deck thinking and looking out for her ship , yes it was still her ship mutaniy or not .She wasn't going to give it up without a fight at the first chance she would take it back , hopefully The Peral would come somewhere near and she could sneak aboard. She turned to look back on the ship, she saw James' spy close by and sighed "always too close for comfort" she muttered Will was suddenly at her side.
"you alright Cal?"
"yeah why wouldn't i be?"

There was an akward silence
"Cal what accord did you make "
"you don't need to know it's between me and James"

That night, Ana, Emil, Gibbs, Jose, Captain Turner, Will and Gavin all sat around Jack in his cabin. It was high time for a little meeting. Aimee and Kira was also present, meanwhile Derek, Susanna, Lydia, Gwen and Gabby were still resting or so Ana thought they were.
"As you all already know, we are heading towards Isle De Muerta, and just a little while ago, Ana has told me everything; it is now clear why Captain Thellen was after us in the first place."
"I do not understand, it is best if ye explain Jack!" asked Gibbs.
"Well, this information is highly classified so I'll be needing you all to keep it as a secret. Anyway, some of you probably know it, and maybe some of you don't, but as an honest man, and as gratitude to Ana for sharing with me this bit of information; and because I have acknowledge you all as part of my crew; I shall tell it. You see, in Isle De Muerta lies a map. We found it, Ana and I, a long time ago; I never thought it was of any value, but nonetheless I hid it. Now it is believed that this map will show us the way to El Dorado, the City of Gold. I do not know how Captain Thellen knew of this, but I belive she is still after us for the very same reason"
"The City of Gold! So it is true!" gasped Kira.
Jack smiled curtly, "Not so fast my dear lass, the tale is true, but I shall not believe it, not until the gold is right in front of my very eyes."
"So you have agreed? To find El Dorado?" asked Ana, her eyes gleaming in delight.
"I have, only if you all agree to the terms and conditions. I shall get 50 percent; and you can share the rest of it amongst yourselves" he mumbled quickly.
Gasps and shock filled the cabin.
"Jack! That's preposterous!" shrieked Ana on top of her lungs. "I believe everyone should have an equal share!"
Everyone cheered to this.
Jack laughed, a rather awkward drunken laugh, "Calm down, calm down, do you honestly believe I could be that heartless? Alright then, 40 percent!"
"Jack, I hate to say this, but you are clearly outnumbered here" replied Ana, and with one swift movement Ana lunged towards him and swiped off his compass.
"Eh?" was all he replied.
"You still need this Jack, without this you can't even get to the Island of the Dead."
Jack rolled his eyes. "Alright, alright, alright, everyone get's an equal share!"
"I have your word on it?" countered Ana again, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes, you have my word on it. Now give me back my compass."

"Ye'll all best be getting some rest now." There was a pause. " 'Less yer all afraid I'll slit yer gizzards as ye sleep!" he explained, raising an eyebrow in mock indignance. With some tired mumbling, the meeting adjourned and the various crewmembers ambled off. Gibbs lightly shook Aimee by the shoulder to indicate that she should follow him, and Ana, Emil and Kira went out with them. Jose left fairly quickly, no doubt to return to Gabby. After a moment, Jack strode after Gibbs and Aimee as well. Calen, however, lingered for a moment. Will, out of concern for his sister, hovered expectantly by the door, and Gavin stayed close by his friend. Captain Turner's mind was troubled; she was loath to divulge the conditions of her agreement with James, but at talk of dividing the riches of El Dorado, his demand for half of the loot from the voyage became an issue that must eventually be addressed. It was a small confort, though, that James at least didn't know about El Dorado. Yet. When Calen finally left the captain's cabin, she caught sight of a dark flutter from the corner of her eye, vivid enough to impress upon the canvas of the darkling sky. Something too small and light to be the image of a ship in the distance... Even without turning her head to acknowledge her seeing the thing, instinct told her what it was. A bird. And there, across the deck, was Derek Bennet, the spy. Her hands clenched into fists as she glared at him, but she did not approach him. With a growl she turned and swept away. Advising Gavin to go and see Gabby, Will went after her. Jose, back from checking in on his slumbering love, stood on the deck, scoured the horizon with his telescope. How far were they now from the red sailed ship? Were they elluding her successfully? It was hard to see through the dusk, but the Spaniard's expert eye caught sight of the predator to which the Pearl was like quarry. He frowned, trying to discern the image on the uppermost flag... *** Carlita's rage had died, but her determination remained, as she stood, like an ice statue, before the helm. She only had to keep Sparrow's ship in view... She wouldn't, nay, couldn't let the pirate rascal cheat her out of what should have been hers a long time ago... Albert Thellen softly brushed back a wayward lock of glossy hair that hung in in young fiance's slender face. In the moonlight, her hair seemed to gleam like onyx. Her eyes sparkled more majestically than the stars themselves.
"You'll never leave again, Carlita? Promise me."
"I shall be by your side always, my love."
He smiled, and embraced her tightly. "When we have the map, heaven will be within reach." He released her and held her at arm's length to look at her in the eye. "We'll need no longer live as pirates, pillaging and scavanging like rats. I will finally be able to treat you like the princess you are."
Carlita clasped his hands in hers. "Our grandest adventure lies only a sunrise away!"A weaker woman, or a wiser one, might have shed tears to think of the hopes and promises made by a young love who was no more. But Thellen had grown heartless since the day she had let the former Captain Thellen die. Memories were worth nothing to her now, save the fuel for revenge.

Aimèe followed Ana and the others out on to the deck. Not really knowing what to think of their new adventure; they all scattered without words and went their separate ways. Aimèe yawned and decided it was time for her to catch some sleep.
"Aimèe!" A voice called her back. It was Jack. "Aimèe lass, wait. Me thinks.....I may have some explaining to do..."
Aimèe turned to face her newly found father, "I think I understand already Jack."
"It's jus' been a...a while since I seen yer mother an all jus'..."
"Seventeen years." She corrected him coldly.
"No. No, I went back to see 'er an' that's when I gave 'er this compass to look af- er, to remember me by lass. An' that was five years ago, an' I would have seen yer then, cept she didn't tell me 'bout yer."
Aimèe didn't say anything. She was confused...and hurt...and angry. Why had her mother not told her?
"Why didn't she say anything? She let me think you were dead!"
Jack sighed. "Me an' yer mother were...well, we weren't the best o' friends an' if I were her I'd say I were dead too.."
Aimèe laughed. "Yeah, I heard about your wonderful way with women."
"Oi! I'll have ye know I'm not as bad as people make me out ta be, but I am fierce! And, that doesn't mean that I'm bad with women, after all, I'm captain Jack Sparrow." He laughed to and put an arm around his daughter.

From across the deck Gibbs smiled at the two of them, "Sparrows," He muttered to himself "I'll never understand 'em, never."

Being unable to make out the flag on the mast of the pursuing ship due to darkness and distance, Jose finally decided to go to sleep. He walked down to the small surgeon's quarters where Gabby, Gwen, Lydia, and Kira were sleeping. There were sheets hanging from the ceiling in order to branch off each bed, and give the occupants some privacy.
However, as he walked to Gabby's section of the room, Jose noticed that the sheet to Gwen's section of the room had been tacked open and to the side. He went to see if anything was amiss. The light of the candle he held, revealed that nothing was. Only, there was a chair next to her bed, as if someone had been attending to Gwen. And there was a basin of warm water on the nearby table with a dampened cloth in it. Gwen's bangs and forehead were slightly wet. "Who has been here," wondered Jose in a whisper.
Gwen stirred in her sleep, and moaned. "Damien," she whispered.
Puzzled, Jose decided to leave the sheet as it was, and to sit in the chair next to Gabby's bed again. If anyone came back to Gwen, he would notice. Unless he fell asleep. Which, soon after taking Gabby's hand in his, he did. *************************
Having kept his crew busy with anything and everything about the ship, Captain George the Blade was able to pilfer everything of value out of the deceased Ed's belongings. He returned to the helm of the ship with an innocent smile as if he had done nothing.
His new first mate came to him, and said, "Captain! The Pearl, the last we saw of it before the sun sank was of it changing course, and heading to the northwest. The other ship, whatever it was, followed. The naval ship has totally disappeared. For the night, we are blind. Shall we anchor? Or shall we continue along the last known trajectory of the Pear?"
"Continue on," ordered George. "We can't lose any ground on them. We must catch them! Not only will that mean more loot for us, but it will also mean...."
"But sir," objected the first mate. "The men are tired."
"I don't care," snarled George. "Row now and rest later!"
The first mate bowed and left to bark out the orders.
George's thoughts continued, "...but it will also mean getting ahold of those sweet women that escaped us. And you, Gabby--its personal! You killed my best friend! Better him than me, so I'm kind of glad he insisted on having you first. Still, you won't be so lucky next time!"

Lydia tossed restlessly in her bed. Throughout the night she drifted in and out of consciousness. The sweat stood out on her brow, but she shivered as though with cold. By dawn she had lost all awareness of the world around her.

Kira had enjoyed a good nights sleep. Now she got up sleepily and wiped the dust from her eye. Stretching and yawning, she smiled at what the thought that the new day might bring. Suddenly a small sound caught her attention. Frowning, she turned to look in the direction of Lydia's bed. She gasped at the sight that caught her eye. Lydia was suffering from a fever of some sort. The women tossed and turned and cryed out at various intervals. Gasping in astonishment, Kira walked over to Lydia and put a hand on her forehead. She was burning up! A little scared now, Kira rushed out onto the crowded deck, full of pirates. Kira rushed off to look for some help for Lydia from one of her friends before it was to late.

"Child, what is the matter?"
Derek Bennet had caught the girl by the forearm and was regarding her with concern.
"Lydia; she's- something's wrong-" she stumbled, becoming inarticulate in her panic. She took a breath to steady herself. "S'a nasty fever, I think, an' she's tossin' and turnin' like she's possessed..."
Bennet's eyes widened, and his grip on Kira's arm tightened involunterily. "I just saw the surgeon in the mess hall," he said, in what he hoped was a reassuring tone. "I shall fetch him immediately. You'd best find someone... Master Gavin, or Miss Ana..."
Kira nodded and, as soon as Bennet had released her, dashed off. Derek barged past a gaggle of pirates to get back to the mess hall, a feeling of guilt starting to creep over him... After all, Captain Hawkins had told him to look out for the young lady.
He found the physician, a young Frenchman, in mid-chew of a mouthful of his breakfast.
"You're needed," Bennet wasted no time in telling him, and, used to such matters of urgency, the surgeon nodded silently and leapt to his feet to follow the spy out.
