Hello! ;D This is the place to post all your favorite quote from any Tolkien-related book or movie!
I'll start off with one of my favorites from The Hobbit; chapter 2 pg 53, Gandalf has just returned and saved Bilbo and Thorin and company from being eaten by the trolls:
"Where did you go to, if I may ask?" said Thorin to Gandalf as they road along. "To look ahead," said he "And what brought you back in the nick of time?" "Looking behind," said he.
And one of my favorite quote from the Two Towers, the movie:
Gimli: What's happening? Legolas: Shall I describe it to you? Or would you like me to find you a box? Gimli: *pauses* *laughs sarcastically*
All from me for now... have fun!

Good ones Niph!! ;DOh wow! THERE'S SO MANY!! But I think I can manage! Hehehe!
These are from the movies.
"So do I Frodo, so do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide, all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us"~Gandalf
"I dont know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve"~ Bilbo
"The Ring can never be destroyed by any craft we here posses Gimli son of Gloin"~ Elrond
"They're scattered, divided, leaderless!"~ Elrond
"Fool of a Took! Throw yourself in next time, and rid us of your stupidity!"~ Gandalf a wee bit mad ---------------------------------------------------------------
These are from the book
(I dont remember who actually said this, but I think it's Gandalf or Sam reciting a poem, and I'm not even sure form which book! - Help!)
"All that is gold do not glitter, not all who wander are lost, the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost, from ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring, renewed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king"
--------------------------------------------------- (this is another one fotr pg 284, Gandalf again a wee bit mad, Crossing Caradhras ;D )
Legolas : If Gandalf would go before us with a bright flame, he might melt a path for you!
Gandalf : And perhaps if elves could fly over the mountains, they might fetch the sun to save us! But I need something to work on, I cannot burn snow!"
-------------------------------------------------------- (And this one before entering the Mines pg 289)
Aragorn : I too once passed the Dimrill Gate, but though I also came out again, the memory is evil. I do not wish to enter Moria a second time.
Pippin : I do not wish to enter it even once!

One of my favorites from the FOTR movie is this:
Galadriel's Prologue
I amar prestar aen ... han mathon ne nen ... han mathon ne chae a han noston ned wilith ...
The world is changed ... I can feel it in the water ... I can feel it in the earth ... I can smell it in the air ...

I like Sam's little story speech. *sniff sniff* it always makes me feel so sad. But since I am incredibly lazy, I will allow someone else to post it on here...

Well fine then, I will do it myself...
Frodo: I can't do this Sam. Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something. Frodo: What are we holding on to Sam? Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- following Gollum, walking down the path] Sam: I wonder if we'll ever be put into songs or tales. Frodo: [turns around] What? Sam: I wonder if people will ever say, 'let's hear about Frodo and the Ring.' And they'll say 'yes, that's one of my favorite stories. Frodo was really courageous, wasn't he, Dad?' 'Yes, my boy, the most famousest of hobbits. And that's saying alot.' Frodo: [continue walking] You left out one of the chief characters - Samwise the Brave. I want to hear more about Sam. [Frodo stops and turns to Sam] Frodo: Frodo wouldn't got far without Sam. Sam: Now Mr. Frodo, you shouldn't make fun; I was being serious. Frodo: So was I. [they continue to walk] Sam: Samwise the Brave... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Théoden: So much death. What can men do against such reckless hate? Aragorn: Ride out with me. Ride out and meet them. Théoden: For death and glory. Aragorn: For Rohan. For your people. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aragorn: You have some skill with a blade. Éowyn: Women of this country learned long ago that those without swords can still die upon them. I fear neither death nor pain. Aragorn: What do you fear, milady? Éowyn: A cage. To stay behind bars until use and old age accept them and all chance of valor has gone beyond recall or desire. Aragorn: You're the daughter of kings. A shield maiden of Rohan. I do not think that will be your fate. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Elrond: If Aragorn survives this war, you will still be parted. If Sauron is defeated and Aragorn made king and all that you hope for comes true you will still have to taste the bitterness of mortality. Whether by the sword or the slow decay of time, Aragorn will die. And there will be no comfort for you, no comfort to ease the pain of his passing. He will come to death an image of the splendor of the kings of Men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world. But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. Here you will dwell bound to your grief under the fading trees until all the world is changed and the long years of your life are utterly spent.
*sniff sniff* all of these are from TTT
