*Looks nervous*
Is it too late to audition for Jack?
And do y'all already have a villain in mind? Cos there was a certain hinting in one of Niph's recent RP posts.
Oh, and before I forget, I love the RPG so far, you're all such talented writers! Plus the characters are all unique and memorable and great for the time period.

~ The Lose City of Gold Bit ~
Hello! Well, I thought of something to incorporate the Lost City of Gold into the rpg (and apparently Summer was thinking the same thing! hehe), so here it is... the bad guy (whoever he/she may turn out to be), wants Jack's compass so he can get to Isla de Muerta to retrieve something from the island that will show the way to El Dorado. Don't know what that something should be though. *thinks more*

Map? Globe? Second compass? Magic ring or some other trinket of that sort?
Heheh, I'll just go stand in the corner now...

Nilphy, Lady D, and I were doing some brainstorming tonight, and we came up with some more ideas for El Dorado. According to history, El Dorado, the City of Gold, was actually only one of seven rumored cities of gold. The Spanish explorer, Hernado de Soto (1496--1542), began looking for it in what is now Florida. The expedition started out in May of 1539. Everywhere de Soto and his men went, the story was always the same from the local Native Americans--"El Dorado and the other Cities of Gold are not here. They are a great distance away. Go west." Of course, the common concensus among many historians today is that El Dorado never existed. The natives were simply trying to get de Soto and his men as quickly and as far away from their homes as possible. Europeans were often cruel and unfriendly to the indigenous tribes of the New World, and their heretofore unseen and unknown flus and diseases wrecked havoc on the natives. Thus, it is no surprise that the Indian tribes would want de Soto and his men nowhere near them. De Soto kept looking though. He searched for three years, and underwent many trials (threats of mutiny, disease, lack of supplies, constant fights with natives, injuries, etc). He explored much of Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas in the process. He finally succumbed to fever (possibly pneumonia) after falling from his horse, and died on about June 25th, 1542. His companions buried him on the banks of the Mississippi River, yet feared the local tribes might dig up the body and desecrate it. So, the Spanish dug up the body themselves, placed it in a hollowed tree, and sank it into the Mississippi River. Ok, here's where Nilphy, Lady D, and my idea comes in. Even though de Soto never did find El Dorado, we could say that he did have a map to it (whether an accurate one or a dead-end one is up to us). De Soto only held his men together through his own will-power and determination. Without him, they had had enough and were ready to go home. They possibly no longer believed all the tales about El Dorado. And go home soon after de Soto's death, they did. So, perhaps if they no longer cared about finding El Dorado, they placed the maps to it with de Soto's body? And while they may have thought they successfully sank his body, we could say that it floated down the Mississippi River, and washed ashore at the mouth of the river. The Mississippi, of course, flows into the Gulf of Mexico, and thus the Caribbean. Perhaps Jack, Ana, Emil, and the rest of the crew of the Black Pearl came ashore near the mouth of the river one day, and found the body and the map? Perhaps they were in the process of deciphering what it really was when Barbossa mutinied? Hence, Jack, Ana, and Emil would know there was a map and that it was most likely terribly important, but they wouldn't know what it was exactly. Just have a desire to get it back. And thus the map to El Dorado ended up with the rest of the pirate treasure at the Isle de Meurta. So if we eventually arrive at the Isle de Meurta, we can find the map? How does that sound to everyone?

I dunno about Summer, but I'd like to hear more about this James fellow. The map on de Muerta is a pretty clever idea, it'd be a neat plot twist. Would whatever villain crops up know anything about it? (I hope y'all don't mind me putting in my opinion when I'm not in the RPG. )

Sorry krys! Yeah you should develop him, maybe he's in the navy, maybe he's a commodore! Why that would be interesting eh? Anywhoo, its still up to you love Oh and jeff niph and lady d! I love the idea !! Oh and bosun its perfectly alright! yeah, the villain might know about the map, and he also knows that he needs the compass to GET TO the map, but jack ana emil and the rest are still oblivious about it, only to discover the fact later

Hey everyone, I was skimming through this history book I have, and found some information about pirates that might prove useful in the rpg. If not, well, maybe you'll at least find it a bit interesting. ;D The code or rules that a pirate crew sailed under were called "articles." The were written down, and agreed upon by the entire crew before they set sail. Everyone signed. If a person from a captured ship or a raided town was forced to join the crew, or "impressed" (just like Gavin), they also were required to sign the articles. If a pirate ship were attacked by a certain country's navy or by pirate-hunters, the pirates usually destroyed their articles--because it could be used as evidence against them if they were captured/arrested. Some pirates signed or marked their crew's articles in a circle around the written articles. That way, if the articles were ever discovered, the authorities could not know for certain who signed first and in what order. And this enabled any captured pirates to claim that they had been impressed, and were forced into piracy. Pretty clever, huh? It is hinted at by some pirates that the articles themselves might be so disgusting and disturbing in their details (along the lines of murder, torture, rape, etc), that they would definately want to destroy them at some time or another. Pirate articles that are known to us today seem to be reconstructed from court testimony, written interviews with imprisoned pirates, or from the unwilling impressed men who had been forced to sign. In 1723, the pirate ship Revenge, captained by Captain John Phillips, had been captured. And it had been captured before their articles could be destroyed. That evidence led to many of the crew being found guilty of piracy and hung. But here are a few interesting tidbits from that ship's pirate articles: Every Man shall obey civil Command; the Captain shall have one full Share and a half in all Prizes; the Master, Carpenter, Boatswain, and Gunner shall have one Share and quarter.
If any Man shall offer to run away, or keep any Secret from the Company, he shall be maroon'd with one Bottle of Powder, one Bottle of Water, one small Arm and Shot [usually enogh powder to commit suicide with].
If any Man shall steal any Thing in the Company, or game to the Value of a Piece of Eight , he shall be maroon'd or shot.
That Man that shall strike another whilst these Articles are in force, shall receive Moses's Law (that is, 40 stripes lacking one) on the bare Back.
That Man that shall snap his Arms, or smoak Tobacco in the Hold, without a Cap to his Pipe, or carry a Candle lighted without a Lanthorn [lantern], shall suffer the same Punishment as in the former Article.
There are more, but I just picked a few that sounded interesting or might prove useful. It seems whipping was a common punishment for disobedience on a ship. And 39 lashes, too! So anyway, there you have it. Hope it wasn't too boring and that it serves at least some purpose.
