Alright, there's a lot of pirate talk, if you will, in PotC, some of which I know and fully understand and some which are completely new, and totally incomprehensible (SP?) I be glad if someone to clear them up!
Pirate Talk #1 --------------------- Each man here has proved his mettle a hundred times over and a hundred times again! ~ Barbossa
Pirate Talk #2 ------------------ So you expect to leave me standing on some beach with nothing but a name and your word it's the one I need and watch you sail away with my ship? ~ Barbossa
No I expect to leave you standing on some beach with absolutely no name at all, watching me sail away with my ship and then I'll shout the name back at you. Savvy? ~Sparrow
But that still leaves us with the problem of me standing on some beach with naught but a name and your word it's the one I need. ~ Barbossa
(what in the world are these two captains yankering about?)
Lastly,
"....Robert's your uncle, Fannie's your aunt, there you are with two ships, the makings of your very own fleet" ~ Sparrow

well, except for the last one, there is no pirate slang in those phrases (and savvy I guess)
1. to prove ones mettle is to demonstrate one's worth 2. Okay gotta break this one down, its a little complicated to explain
Barbossa - pointing out that just being given the name of whose blood he needs isn't exactly fair - cause then Jack will have the ship (which is tangible) and barbossa will be stuck if he's lying. Jack - saying he won't tell till after he has the ship and is leaving (cause he doesn't trust barbossa - for good reason) Barbossa - saying, but yeah that still leaves him with nothing but Jack's word to go on
No clue on the Robert's your uncle Fannie's your aunt - except is seems to be a sort of blink of the eye, or swift as lightning statement. Perhaps just a varient on "quicker than you can say bob's your uncle"

Well these phrases aren't technically "pirate's talk" since these words are also used by non-pirates, they are just put in a confusing grammatical order that we don't understand. Er ... well, my uncle's name is not Robert and my aunt's name is definitely not Fannie, LOL! ;D Can't help you with that, sorry ...
You know what's the one thing I just really respect about this movie? It doesn't overdo the pirate thing. I mean, some things are cliche like the captain having a pet (the monkey) but I don't think they've used the phrase "Arggg, matey" once.
Or maybe I'm mistaken. ;D

I am pretty sure they said Arg Matey a couple of times, but I thought it was a nice tough, that and the yo ho scene. Of course, Sparrow also introduced a whole lot more pirate slang into my vocabulary
Savvy?

Robert's your Uncle and Fanny's your Aunt must be a Brit phrase coz I know it.
It means there you have it.... if ya get me. It's usually said Bob's your Uncle Fanny's your Aunt. It's just a way of cutting down the story.
"....Robert's your uncle, Fannie's your aunt, there you are with two ships, the makings of your very own fleet" ~ Sparrow
So - this means ~ this happens, that happens and you get two ships, etc.
It's hard to explain. But I know what it means so

Hey, I'm gonna start using "Bob's your uncle, Fanny's your aunt" phrase from now on. Well, even if they did say "Arg, matey" a few times, they didn't make a big deal of it, like stretching it out so it's unbelievable. This is actually the first pirate movie I've ever enjoyed watching. Can you believe they based all this on a ride?

Everything needs a bases for something, once I read this book that was so exciting, it was based off of something that had really happened, the actual event was boring, nothing special, but the book made it so cool. So yeah, even if the ride was nothing special, it's concievable that the movie would be great.

Ohhh 'so there you have it' thanks for clearing that up aimee! Now I get it! LOL!!! Johnny sounds so cute talking as a pirate! Ok, I can go on and on about him so I'll shut up now.
I think you'd have to give HUGE credit to the screenplay writers, Ted Elliot and Terry Rosario, they made the whole script, storyline and everything. (They also wrote for Shrek). These guys are awesome, Johnny also said once how he admired these guys and took on the role mainly because he found out they were the writers for Shrek, and that he loved Shrek lol!

I didn't like shrek, but that was mainly cause I liked the kids book it was supposedly based on (which wasn't ANYTHING like it) and cause I found the endiing too sappy.
