The actor who played the Emperor (was it Caligula?) in Gladiator was Joaqin Phoenix, younger brother to the late River Phoenix. And he was good in the movie. Though the real Emperor (keep forgetting the name, but I looked it up) did not die in that way. And the movie pretty much sucked anyway. Oh wow! Joaquin was sooo evil in that role! he played it brilliantly, he's a great actor too Why do you say it sucked Tanc? I think we had a conversation about this but I forgot why.

Why do I think Gladiator sucked, Summer? Well, it was historically inaccurate. It made Commodus out to be the murderer of his father (no proof in the historical record), and it killed off Commodus in a way that did not happen. Plus, it really upset me that Russel Crowe got the Oscar for best actor for his role in that movie. I didn't see much depth to his character; it seemed rather one-dimensional to me. Plus, the very fact that another actor (who shall remain nameless) was snubbed that year. The only thing I really liked about that movie was the battle at the beginning, and that was mainly due to the WOOR sound of the catapults. Very cool!!

It also made it seem like Gladiators were all kept prisoner... when they weren't......and that they were all forced to be Gladiators...when they weren't.

Everyone I know thought that Russel Crowe had such a wonderful role and that he was such a brilliant actor, grrr... Don't you just hate historically inaccurate films that try and pass themselves off as accurate

Yes, I do hate such historically inaccurate movies, Athena. With one exception...Braveheart! It was inaccurate in the details of the Battle of Stirling, the sidestory with the English/French princess, and the timing of the deaths of William Wallace and King Edward I in relation to each other. But I loved the movie! In relation to this thread, the actor who played Edward I was positively evil! Plus the movie had a very romantic and touchingly sad love story, awesome battle scenes in which the Irish Army did a wonderful job, armor and weapons that were superb and accurate to the time period, the characters acted human and made you relate and care for them, it was sad and uplifting and heroic, and it maintained the general historical theme of Scottish independence very well. As Robert Burns put it so much better than I: SCOTS WHA HAE
Scots, wha hae wi' Wallace bled; Scots, wham Bruce has aften led; Welcome to your Glory Bed, Or to Glorious Victorie. Now's the day, and now's the hour; See the front o' battle lour; See approach proud Edward's pow'r. Chains and slavery!
Wha will be a traitor knave? Wha can fill a coward's grave? Wha sae base as be a slave? Let him turn and flee! Wha for Scotland's King and Law Freedom's sword will strongly draw, Freeman stand or freeman fa' Caledonian! Let him on we' me!
By Opression's woes and pains! By your sons in servile chains! We will drain our dearest veins, But they shall be free! Lay the proud usurpers low! Tyrants fall in every foe! Liberty's in every blow! Forward! Let us do or dee!

I hope you enjoy the movie if you get to see it, Athena. Its very good! Just beware of blood and a little nudity if that's not your type of thing. Its both sad and uplifting, and is my favorite movie after the Star Wars ones and LOTR. Happy viewing!

I saw Braveheart a looong time ago, since I was quite umm young and umm dumb, I completely lost track on what the movie is all about, looking forward on seeing it, but haven't had a chance. Ok more bad guys, Alan Rickman as Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood, he also plays Prof Severus Snape in Harry Potter Dustin Hoffman - as Captain James S Hook, in Hook Jason Isaacs - as that evil Malfoy guy, and William Tavington in the Patriot. Kathy Bates - as Annie Wilkes in Misery, as the psycopathic fan of that writer, she was soo creepy.

Chauvlin in ANY reincarnation of the Scarlet Pimpernel (which includes Ian McKellen, Terrance Mann, Rex Smith and others)
For pure eye-candy purposes, the guy who played Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility. yum
